Film of the Month: Street Candy Psychedelic
Why This Film, Right Now
This film was one we picked up for its cool tones and slightly retro feel — something that felt like a nice transition into spring.
That shift from winter into something softer, a little more colorful, is always interesting to shoot. Even with snow still hanging around, we found that this film added a kind of retro glaze that felt different from our usual stocks.
Where It Shines
This feels like a film that really shines outdoors, especially when there’s more color to work with. Looking back, it seems like it would come alive more in scenes with florals, brighter tones, or stronger contrast between subjects.
Shooting it in a colder, more muted environment gave us a different result than expected — which makes it feel like a film that’s a bit more dependent on when and where you use it.
A Few Notes from Our Roll
Our roll leaned slightly underexposed, which definitely affected some of the results. But the frames that did come through had a look that felt unique and a little unexpected.
It left us feeling like this is a film worth revisiting, just with a different approach.
How We Shot It
We shot this on a Nikon EM, which is one of our favorite cameras. It felt like a good pairing for something a little more playful and experimental.
This seems like a great film to bring along on a trip or to shoot alongside a few other rolls — something you can use to try different things without putting all your expectations on it.
Who It’s For
This feels like a good fit for someone who enjoys experimenting a bit — whether that’s with color, subject matter, or even something like double exposures.
It’s not necessarily a one-roll-does-everything film, but it can be a really fun addition when you’re open to seeing how it responds.
Final Thoughts
This one didn’t fully land for us on the first go, but it made us curious enough to try it again — and that usually says something.
Sometimes a film just needs the right conditions, and this feels like one we’d come back to with that in mind.
